It looks like the Hollister Rally will be around for awhile.  The iconic event had been cancelled for 2008-2012 due to the flagging economy, but new promoters Worldwide Dynamics Inc and the City of Hollister brought it back this past July to great success and attendance, with  reports of nearly 60,000 people coming to the small California town to celebrate the spirit of independence.

The event features vendors, music, demo rides, a bike show, bikini contest, beer gardens and bikers as far as the eye can see. And the success of the 2013 rally lead to even better news for the city, and for bike enthusiasts.  In mid-August, the city council voted to extend the agreement to host the rally for the next 10 years.

Interim City Manager Bill Avera mentioned there would be an early termination clause in any rally contracts, while he also noted that next year’s rally will be over three days, as opposed to the two days for the 2013 revival. “Most important, it lets people know we are committed to this and will allow us to bring in major sponsorships,” Avera concluded. The officially sanctioned biker rally started in 1997 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Boozefighters’ famed “invasion” of Hollister that inspired the Marlon Brando movie, “The Wild One.”
