Son Honors Father with Sentimental Softail

Fearless inexperienced biker’s second ride ever, on his dad’s 2006 Softail, will likely be his most memorable.

We all have our own unique stories about when we developed an interest in riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. For many of us, the passion we have for bikes came from a family member, oftentimes a parent.

But in the case of a young man who goes by the screen name of Super_Colossal on Reddit, the passing of a parent and the inheritance of a 2006 Softail motivated him to hit the highway for only the second time in his life. And even though he has a lot of rides ahead of him, this one will likely go down as the most memorable. That’s because it was serving as the lead in his father’s memorial service.

For this young man, the humbling experience was nerve racking but necessary. He admitted that his inexperience played a part in that. “It was intimidating at first, especially dealing with its weight. But it kind of comes naturally to me. The last time I rode was when I tested for my license 4 years ago, where I did well.”

But he obviously treasures his dad’s old Harley now, noting that “Every time I go near it, it’s like he’s right there.” Even though he admits that a Softail might not be the best bike to learn how to ride on. “I’m not 100% sure exactly what I’m going to do, all I know is that I’m at least keeping the bike in my immediate family. If I ever feel unsafe on this, I have family that can take great care of it.”

Clearly the old Softail was Super_Colossal’s dad’s pride and joy. It’s nice to see a young man honor that connection, and it’s clear that he didn’t just inherit a used motorcycle here. He also inherited at least a little bit of his father’s passion.
