The Buffalo Chip Campgrounds: The Place to Stay in Sturgis

Buffalo Chip Campground near Sturgis offers visitors an incredible place to stay whether you are camping in an RV, a pop-up camper, a bus, or a tent. There are lots of amenities and entertainment to enjoy while you’re staying at the Buffalo Chip. This is a great place to camp during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. But don’t expect to sleep too much!

Reservations

In order to get into the campgrounds, you must have a pass. There are different types of passes available, and all of them give you access to concerts and camping privileges until 10:00a.m. the following day, unless you have a longer pas. If you bring your tent to the Chip, you can pitch it just about anywhere on the grounds. If you prefer an RV, you can bring your own, or rent one from Buffalo Chip. There are several RV spots to choose from, but they do not offer any paved spaces. They also offer EZ camp packages which include a tent and lots of extras, as well as a camping spot in the center of the campgrounds. These packages start at $600 for one person, adding $100 for each additional person. Call ahead or check online to reserve your spot.

Events

Whether you’re staying at Buffalo Chip Campground near Sturgis or not, you can still attend some of the events held on the grounds. Ticket prices are separate for the events. You can enjoy hill climbing, mud racing, the shooting arcade, and other events, festivals, and exhibits throughout the year. There are daily activities for everyone at Buffalo Chip. The Chip is host to the American Thunder Music Festival in August with guests such as Alice Cooper, Def Lepperd, Toby Keith, and more.

Vendor Services

The Buffalo Chip Campground near Sturgis offers guests a myriad of vendors and amenities without you ever having to leave the campgrounds. You can rent a golf cart to wheel around in during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. A two-person cart runs about $245 during the rally. This is a great way to get around in the crowded areas. For those who drive an RV, there are pump and fill services for water and waste. The staff will take care of the job while you’re enjoying the rally. You can even rent your own private potty, which the staff will clean and pump daily. They also offer transportation services during the motorcycle rally in August. They can transport you from a private jet, helicopter, or luxury ground vehicle. But isn’t that why you brought your bike?

Food and Drinks

There is a restaurant on the Buffalo Chip Campgrounds near Sturgis. The Stage West Cafe offers budget friendly prices and a full menu of items. They are open breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and you can save money by ordering ahead of time. The Rat Hole Bar is also on the grounds. The Sons of Light Ministry service offers free hotcakes and coffee breakfast to all campers each morning.
