Maybe just me but I'd plan on doing the first service on the road. Plenty of good people on this forum, when you get close to a thousand and know about where you're gonna be give a shout out on here and someone will direct you to a good local dealer. Or if you get to Texas I'm sure SafetyMan will help you out, he's always offering help to a brother rider. And most dealers are pretty good at squeezing in a traveler. First service is pretty critical, lots more than just an oil change...like I said, maybe just me! Good luck...

I would certainly help. Thanks for the shout-out!

I used to live outside of *******, MI, and that probably would have worked for him....

San Antonio is a bit of a run LOL

I left town with 200 miles on mine. I checked with the service guys before I left and told him that I would be over 1,000 when I returned. He said it would be fine until I got back. I knew what the answer would be because I knew that they wouldn't want me giving my 1,000 mile service money to another dealership, but what that did was give me the get out of jail free card if they tried to deny a claim based on a late 1,000 mile service. I got back into town with 1,600 miles and drove straight to the dealer. The tech that did my service said that she was breaking in great and everything appeared to be fine. 1 year and 16,000 miles later she's still running flawlessly.

I would at least ask your local dealer and get the name of the person who gave you the thumbs up on it in case it ever becomes an issue.

When you go on your trip in a couple of weeks, put some miles on it before. Perhaps two to three hundred, or so. Then dump the all oil, tranny and primary included, and do your first oil change yourself. Nothing to it, really. Don't forget to change the filter, as well. Use dino-based 20W-50 in motor and primary and preferably Formular+ in tranny. Then go on your trip and don't worry. Do change the RPMs often. Interstate driving is not recommended under 1K.

I bought my 2011 FLTRU 400 miles from home.

Got on the interstate 3 miles from the dealer and rode her to the house.

If it were me, I would change all three fluids and the oil filter the day before I left, wether it had 20 miles or 620 miles. What's $100 in the grand scheme of it all?? Cheap in my opinion......

Change your fluids before the trip... Besides that what's the worst that could happen not getting the 1000 service done till you have 3000 miles... A couple loose bolts?

I went about 1700 miles on my 2015 FLHTK going to 4 corners when I first bought it. Dealer said that it wasn't that big of a deal as long as I got it in soonest. The Service Manager said 800 ~ 1500 miles is acceptable and typical for many owners.
