My dealer buddy mentioned they are working on a reverse gear for all touring models

Their is already aftermarket reverse gear technology for touring bikes. I think if you need reverse to back up a bike you should choose something smaller in weight.

There's another reason, and I've seen it happen, more than once, to fully competent riders: You fail to notice, until the group is pulling up behind you, that the slope down to the curb where you're going to park is steeper than you realized. If that's the case, you're not backing it out of that space without help.

Or a reverse gear.
