Default Activating intercom with PTT switch?

I have a 2014 Ultra Classic with a 4.3 boom, my bike does not have a rider PTT switch. I read a 2018 Boom manual that gave instructions on activating the rider passenger intercom with the PTT switch if you preferred that method over the VOX. Is it possible to add a PTT switch to my bike and activate the intercom with that method or is this only available on the newer bikes?

Yes, you can add the PTT switch to use it for intercom. Your passenger already has PTT for it in the right side passenger switch controls.

Additionally, after installing the PTT into the right side switchpack, you can have the dealer flash the bike to swap the PTT & Cruise Control functions to the opposite sides (CC on right switchpack, PTT on left switchpack). The advantage of swapping sides; holding the PTT switch in while talking is much easier on the clutch side as opposed to the throttle side.

Thanks. Has anyone installed the PTT switch. Is it a do it yourself job?

Yes, they snap on/off the bars, with little electrical plug-in connectors for the wiring.... very easy to swap switchpaks.... the hardest part was removing the thumb switch on the left switchpak to get the cover off, it's delicate and you need to pop it off without breaking the tab.

Also, to buy one switchpak is like $160, but you can buy a pair of lighted switchpaks for $210.... You get the PTT and lighted buttons...

I did this on my '16 Ultra Classic and it took about 20 minutes to change both swichpaks...

The lighted switchpaks, with PTT button, were #71500248B and cost me $210 for the pair from BoardTracker online in 2/2018.

I think I've read in other threads that some have done it, however the majority of those adding PTT do so by upgrading to lighted switch sets & have the dealers do the upgrade.

I added it... I broke the damn ribbon cable in the left switch-pack when bike was 1 week old. So I bought a set of the lit switch-packs and changed them out... new right one came with the PTT button... that was easy to do. What I do not know is if you can add PTT button to a switch-pack that doesn’t have one. I don’t think so, I think you have to switch out the switch-pack.

When I looked into adding the PTT about a year or so ago, everything I found suggested the whole switchpak needed to be changed out.....
