Yep, it is a very good idea to pin apes. They will move in a stock clamp with the force needed to move a bike in the grass or dirt lot.
Yaffe makes a supper clamp, and its a lot like what he is doing, pining the bars in place.
yes ...your are correct, helping stop the bars from slipping in the clamp , , , ,with the extra leverage of the higher bars , the less slipping ,the more secure they feel ,and in an emergency , that will come in handy !!!
...have one of the super clamps on the roadking ...billet aluminum ...so while i had this one off ...figured it be a good time to duplicate ...!!!
Just installed 12” twin peaks this afternoon/evening. Took 4 1/2 Hours, including moving a car, getting 2 bicycles down, putting them away, moving a dresser, and a beer break. Used NAMZ 8” extensions and stock cables. Stock grips for now as well. Hairsprayes the left grip but it’s not holding great. Maybe by the morning it will be alright. Also gonna try to see if I can find some locally to replace them. PM is only a couple minutes away so I’m gonna try to see if I can go there to get some. Also pinned the stock top clamp, I drilled one off center of my marks so I’m not gonna post a pic of that. All in all, I’d definitely do it again. Probably get the full length NAMZ wire replacements instead of the extensions.
