Born out of my rod breaking while in Sturgis (bungy held till I got home)

First I needed a really long rod because I extended my own forwards by 3 inches. I did order rod ends from custom chrome ($30.00), then I bought a 5/16 plated steel rod at ace hardware ($5.25). Used a 5/16x24 tap and treaded the rod about an inch on each end of the ~15 inch cut piece.

Polished the rod with an SOS pad. Inserted it in a drill grabbed it with the pad and spin with the drill. Looks almost like stainless now.

Put the rod ends on and mount on the bike.....

 

My Bike had the hood over the light with the idiot lights on the hood. I relocated my headlight several months back and wanted to have my N and Oil light as a minimum.

First I took the lights out of the hood and out of the retaining bracket.

After I had the lights down to individual lights I drilled a hole in my dash just below my mount screws. (5/16 hole I think) Then I discovered the light housing was too long to sit flush.

I used a 7/16 stainless tube ($10.25 ace hardware) and a tubing cutter and cut a 1/2 inch piece to use as a bushing stand off.

Put it all togather and a dab of atv on the inside to seal from water and to hold it in place.

 

Good job on the indicator lights and the control rod Outlaw.

Okay, let me first qualify this by saying that I am not an expert at this. All I wanted to do was to give my stock air cleaner a little different look without breaking the bank. Even if I end up re-doing it or going for something different, I think I'll enjoy this new look for a while.

Hopefully what I am after is on this thread, I am a lousy searcher, but I think I saw a modifications to a set of bags that required a support to be mounted to the inside--plexiglass?, I am to cheap to buy demountable bags frm the MOCO, I once modified a set of Sportster bags to be detachable, but old timers is quickly catching up and I have lost the way to do it.

Any help--directions appreciated

love that blacked out front end. Did you have the whole fork tube powdercoated or just the upper portion and was it hard to slide back thru the triple trees?
