Are these waterproof? Looks like quite a gap open between the 6x9 and lid.

It is hard to see from the picture but there are rubber seals installed between actual speaker mounts. The speakers themselves are marine grade. Having said this I have not tested it for being water tight, but I think it will, unless I blow a speaker...lol

These are on ebay, buy these and save yourself the hassle of cutting up a perfectly good set of lids.
