Default Stock saddlebag lid speaker installation

Has anyone templated and installed 6X9's in their stock saddlebag lids? I have a '15 Ultra Low and am extremely capable with hand tools. I believe, with a template, I could make the necessary cuts and mount holes for whichever 6X9 speaker I choose to install but would like to get feedback from those who have gone before me...

You have a nice bike man. Get yourself lids made for 6x9's.

If your dead set on cutting up your lids, vtwin has a DIY kit. The right way however is speaker lids --- hog tunes, fairing factory, etc.

If you ever get an opportunity to see a set of lids that someone has butchered to put speakers in you'll thank us. Please don't do that to your bike bro.

Roger that Haze and thanks for the feedback. I'm just looking at it from a total cost perspective. Lids are 6 bills or thereabouts, then I have to find a quality painter to match my stock Black Magic paint job, have no idea how many bills that will cost, and then a set of lids sitting around the garage.

I know, the argument is then if I eff it up, I'm going to be out that cost anyways. If I make it a winter project and I don't screw it up, hurray, and if I do, then I have time to recover before next riding season.

I need to give this a sh*t ton of thought or perhaps just pass for the time being and accumulate the $$ to do aftermarket lids and paint

You know, I like that thought line...they won't be going on the bike, just being used to hone my skills. If it doesn't work or look good, then default to Haze's advice.

I also have a 15 Ultra low and am right in the middle of putting in a complete new system. See my other threads. I got my 6x9 lids from AdvanBlack. www.advanblack.com They are awesome. They were even able to macth my multi color paint job to the factory lids, so my lids look factory other than the 6x9 grills. Since you are only needed 1 color, it will cost you less than 4 bills... well worth the money. It took me about an hour to swap the lids and install the 6x9 (I went with the Polk Audio 691)
