The 998 is pretty basic, controls front and rear speakers not individual channels like a stand alone DSP... separate DSP has more precise control like M said!

I do not question a stand alone DSP being better than a built in one. While it improves sound and that means a lot. I am not a sit by my bike and crank the tunes kid of guy. The difference between a stand a alone a lone and a built in at 45 to 75 miles an hour might not be that great. What I may do is check out a local shop and see if they have a similar build. And listen and see if it's worth the investment for me. A stand alone DSP is another thing to learn. Good time of year to do so. Thanks again.

Well after all that I bought a Sony. Got a pretty good deal $200.00. I was focused on the Alpine which I still think is a solid unit. But a few too many issues/bugs found while researching. And yes I know that can happen to any product even one with no history of issues. But the Sony had a nothing but positive comments. And it's Marine. Bought the Sony MEX-M100BT . A close second MEX-M70BT. Thanks again for all the feed back.

Sure will. For me this is a winter project so it might be a while. I am doing lower faring speakers at the same time. Mids. Thought I had everything. But the Fosgates are too fat.(Magnets). So I had to order risers. Waiting on those. Today we got 6' of snow and it's 12 degrees today and will be 3 degrees tomorrow. I don't have a heater. But whenever it gets to at least 35 I work in the garage. Kind of excited and pissed at the same time. When done I will crank it up in garage. But won't ride until the salts gone. Ride safe!

First off love it. Speaker and HU upgrade. Does not translate in a video very well but I gave it a shot. Clear, loud, Much deeper a few more tweaks available in the HU. I can also say the gains are set much lower than before unclear exactly why. But the amp would appear to be working less hard. The HU has a 5 volt pre-out and has like 100 per channel stock. Again not sure how that affect the gains either way very happy. Can't wait for spring. Video appears to big will try to shrink it,

Have you had it out on the road with the MEX-M100BT installed? I have read a few reviews online that the vibrations make the volume bounce all over the place. But the posts were old... maybe Sony has addressed the issue.
