Default Switching to gts question

My son has a ‘19 street glide and found a used gts for sale from a road glide. Are these interchangeable? Is it just a plug and play install? Thanks.

If he has a 2019, and he's putting the GTS in it, it's pretty much plug and play. Install is just to unplug everything from the back of the GT and plug it into the GTS. 4 bolts is all that holds in it place, and move the bracket over from the GT to the GTS. If he has a Sirius module in the GT, it will work in the GTS too. Might have to take it to the shop when he is done to get it "programmed" for his particular setup (amp, speaker, Sirius, etc), or to enable certain features.

If you're going to be putting it in a 2014 thru 2018 model, try to verify the software version. If it has software version MY20.19.39.00 or later it will also work in those years bikes as well. Another way of knowing is to check the model number on the GTS head unit itself, if it has a "revision letter" on it (A,B,C, etc) it should have came from the factory with the correct software making it backwards compatible. IF there is no revision letter, AND if it has never had a software update after January of 2020, it can still be made backwards compatible by temporarily installing the GTS in a 2019 or newer bike, update the software, then do a "pre-calibration reset"... then put it in the earlier model bike. There are also other ways to get it updated too, if necessary.

Perhaps I am wrong - but, didn't the 2019 street glide come with the GTS?

only if it was a SG special or had an upgrade. The non specials RG and SG had a 4.3 head unit unless optioned with the GTS

I could be wrong but isn’t there a different part number for a RG and SG. I thought NVS audio did a review and explained there was a little bit of a difference between the RG and SG radio, something about the way the screen fits in the opening.

I thought I had read something to that affect as well but haven’t been able to find that info again. That’s why I asked here.

I plugged them both in on Ronnie's parts microfiche and they are two different part numbers for a 19 Street Glide Special and 19 Road Glide Special. I don't know what the difference is....

part 21 in the first photo is the SG
part 19 in the 2nd photo is the RG
