or read a few carb threads, and get better advice,
the factory doesn't take into account any mods that might be on a eighteen year old bike .
It might even have a non-stock carb, and or exhaust, ignition etc etc ....factory manual cant address that.
"factory manual" would be a waste of $$$
.

If pulling the carb to clean it (which I would do regardless), take notes on what size jets you have, wether the slow jet screw plug has been removed, and how many turns out was it adjusted?
Also if going that far, then might as well replace the intake manifold seals. They get old and dry out. Only ten bucks. One bit of advice, mark the location of your throttle cables. That is the number on question upon reassembly. Which one goes where? A couple pieces of tape solve that one.
Plenty of threads on manifold seal replacement and carb cleaning, so spend a night on the puter reading, then when comfortable, tear into it.
I agree, probably dirt or gunk in the carb. YD
