Changed the fork oil on my recently acquired '02 FXDL (after God knows hows many years just sitting in the previous owners house.)

Installed Type E (15 wt.) Red in color. (What I drained was a sapphire blue color, if that means anything.)

Has to be better than the grey watery crap that came out of my k-100 bmw circa 1986.........filled it up with automatic tranny fluid.....worked fine.

Today I rode down to the local dealer in Durham (about 35 miles each way,) taking the freeway down and country roads back home in order to pick up my extra keys that I ordered last weekend.( A 70 mile test drive to listen to my mufflers too.)

I have now decided over the past 600 miles, that the S&S slash cut mufflers on this bike are just too loud (or I'm too old,) in spite of playing around with the fiberglass packing just yesterday.

So I found a pair of S&S Grand Nationals in black on sale at 52% off (It's the end of season up in Hinckley, Ohio apparently, where the mufflers are coming from.) so for $210 plus tax, I'll install these next weekend. Fingers crossed that I made the right choice. The reviews here in the forums said good things about them a couple of years back, so TBD.

Pic of them here on a Revzilla link:

well seeing as it's a done deal, my recomendation falls a little short.....as a guy who fits the description.....loud pipes/old guy, I was gonna say just ease off the throttle and putt putt like I do
I on the other hand love my cobras....loudest pies on the planet, but easing the throttle is a lot cheaper than a new set of pipes.....

The fact that it still had color rather than being gray usually means that it's pretty fresh.

That's what I would normally think as well, except with other details I know that the bike has been sitting on its 17 y.o. tires for about 12 years or so. It was kept in a climate controlled home workshop FWIW.

Understood Sir. I've always run on the quiet side going back to the Road King with Supertrapps (with the end caps in place.) Plus, the sound from them was well behind me. I was accustomed to that. Now I'm sitting low and right on top on that front cylinder's muffler opening on this bike and that combination, even while putt putting around just feels uncomfortable.

All things added up, I'll have maybe $1300 added to the base price of the bike and if this additional $200 or so makes it right for me, I'll have little regrets about the money spent. (Hell, I could have bought a newer bike! ($$$) and look where that would have gotten me!

Pics and a short report once they're installed.
