bench testing speedometer power
Anyone know what needs to be connected to actually bench test an 09 - 11 speedometer. Apparently not just ground and battery, ground and ignition, ground and accessory, or a combination of the 3. I'm not even looking to test the speed reading function, just power. I checked with a multimeter, accessory, ignition and battery all put out 12v. What actually needs to happen to bench test a speedo?

I have no idea if this will help. Not sure.
Harley speedo's become married to the bike and none usable on anything else as far as I know.
Now if it is married to the bike it has to be through the ecm. The ecm keeps up with the mileage. So is it possible that it requires to have it plugged into the bikes harness?

I have 3 different speedos I'm currently messing with and all three power up on the bike. I know on the 2012 and up they switched to canbus, so maybe those have to receive some sort of signal from the body control module. But on the 2011 and older, it's hard to imagine there's not a way to power them up using a bench power supply or a 12 volt battery.
