HD Tach/Dig speedo install
Best 10 minutes I spent on this thing not riding!
Bought a HD 70900274 combination analog tach/digital speedometer gauge for my tach-less '08 FXD a few months ago. Spent a couple of winter months looking at the box while waiting to install my bars. Did that last week, so today when I got home from work, I decided to install it.
Took all of 10 min - the easiest job imaginable. Popped off the fusebox cover, plugged in the included patch cable to the diag port (or data-link as its called) turned key to ignition - you do this to copy you the odometer data from the ECM to the new gauge. About three heartbeats later "OK" appears on the display. (note, the backlight doesn't illuminate during this procedure, so have a flashlight handy if in a dimly lit environment). Switched off, unplugged, tucked the connector back into its slot and put the cover back on. Two screws off the bottom of the speedo housing and swapped the gauges out.
Started her up and the joy of having a Tach swept over me.
It also gives fuel, gear position, and 12 different colors to choose from. I think I like the default amber though.
Really sweet setup, and really, really easy.
(ignore the crazy iPhone camera reflections - there is no green dot at 3500rpms... and yes, I know, I have to tweak the alignment - and no comments on the silly low mileage! I bought it that way in November before 8 feet of snow got dumped on me)

I used the HD chrome speedo gauge kit 67293-95 http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...er-bracket-kit and a LA Choppers T-Bar bracket. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/163-700
The LAC bracket was only about $60 - you could use cable clamps but for $20-30 more its a nicer solution IMO. Accutronix also makes a bracket.
Also: You can get the same gauge mount from J&P for about half what HD wants. Not sure of its the same quality though. Just FYI.

It was about $270 from Ronnies. A ridiculously easy 10 minutes to get a tach where none was, with no need for a second gauge. I have also gotten used to the digital speedo readout on my Charger - so that's cool too. And having gear indicator is a nice to have as well.
I think I'm going to play around with colors once the sun is out again (but who the hell knows when that will be) to see which is the most visible in direct sunlight.
