T's or apes? Either way I say 14" or less. I think if you switch to 14" t's you can retain stock cables and wiring (because they are narrow).

I went with 14" Carlini Evil Apes. If I could do it over I'd probably get 16's. I'm 5'8" and with my Bare Bones seat on my '13 Bob the 14's are right about shoulder height.

With the 14" bars I could just barely get away with stock cables. I had to bend out the throttle/idle cables and the clutch is drawn too tight for my liking. Wiring was no problem, though I'm not sure if that'd have quite made it up to 16" or not. Brake line was no problem, either. I will be putting some upgraded +4 cables on in a week or so, I hope that'll be the perfect length. I feel like I'm erring on the side of perfect fit vs caution.

I would say that for the peace of mind of knowing it'll at least fit: 14's

If you're willing to get more involved and drop a little more dough: 16's

Putting on the 14" apes was a fairly simple job that was knocked out in a couple hours in my driveway. The wiring connectors on the new bikes are nice and small and fit through the bars.

Figure out which one would be most comfortable, then go 2" higher.

Got 14" Burly narrow apes on my 15 Street Bob. Stock wiring was plenty long enough, but the brake, clutch, amd throttle cable were to short and needed longer cables. Im 5'10" and with a low barebones seat and I think it's perfect.

Thanks for the info! I will be upgrading the bars on my bob so its good to know where the cutoff is for retaining the stock cables and wiring.

I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd post here. Spent weeks pondering the same thing. 14" or 16"..

I'm 5' 5" and I ended up with 16.5" (with stock risers) as a best guesstimate.

Then went to the local shop and ordered 16" apes, levers, mirrors, and a relocation kit for my front signal lights.

I'll post pictures, and any info that might help the next user.
