Default Anyone with a 6 speed and a tach?

Just put a windshield on my bike for the first time today. What a difference in engine sound. Now I need to figure out if I have been lugging the engine up till now or if today I was rev'n the crap out of it.Can anyone who has an 06 with a six speed tranny and a tach tell me what the rpm's are while going 50 mph in 4th and 5th gear. Same question for 60 mph in 5th and 6th gear. Thanks in advance.

You should be shifting into 5th around 50mph and into 6th no sooner than 60mph. Tach rpm's will drop below 2000rpm otherwise and it'll be lugging.

Wont shift mine into 6th at 60MPH. It would lug like a bitch. Iuseally dont even use 6th till at least 70-75mph. But mine is the 96" motor, dont know about the 88's.

Mine Just ate the clutch after 2500 miles (only 5 of the 9 friction plates showed wear). I believe it is because of the lugging at lower speeds(55-70). I asked about it. HD is not covering it (wear item). I don't use 6th unless I'm 70 or better now. If you have the same issue let me know. I'm also going to install a tach and a better clutch.

I never get to 5th gear until 55mph and 6th until 65mph.

Kinda what I thought. I have been lugging the engine a bit. Still would be interested in knowing the rpm's are at those speeds. I can't believe they sell bikes without tachs as standard equipment.

I shift into 6th if I’m going over 70 mph for a while.
Never hit 5th around town.
It’s lug city when I’ve shifted to soon.

Wait...there is a 6th gear?

I usually hit 6th at around 70 as well...the first day I had it on the highway I didn't even remember I had another gear. I hit 5th and spaced off that there was another gear...

Its hard not to lugmy 06 dyna w/ 88incher & 6 speed. I find myself wanting to shift sooner than I should, but the primary gearing is so much higher (lower numericaly) that sixth gear is pretty useless under 75. the 2-1 pipe and powercommander helped a little, but I think she needs 95 inches and some serious head work.
