Stock there really isn't anything wrong with the 96 inch motor except that the comps have short life. On a stock 96 you might need a new one in 40-50K.
As far as brakes go I must be a some kind of sport bike rider.. I've managed to get the single disk pretty hot on the dynas I've ridden that had them but my DX has 2 and I like em. Every HD I own including 2 special construction have dual disks up front.
Ive had the compensator go out on 3 different 96's all under 20,000 miles last one took out the whole primary . I dont ride hard or lug my bikes in top gears the comps are just junk . Also had two need a new stator with low miles . I havent had the best luck with the 07, 08 and 09 Dynas ive owned. Have an 09 Lowrider now and the stator just went out under 9,000 miles .

Well about 20K was all I got out of them but the motor was built basically a stage 4 103.. Went through 3 of them. While you didn't lug them, I suspect that you ran more in the lower RPM range tho.

I dont think it matters how you ride them compensators on those years are horrible .

It does.. The amount magnitude of the pulsations is higher at lower RPMs. If you like to run the bike at 2000 to 2500, the comp wears faster than at 3000-3500.

I would say i dont run in lower rpms most of the time . The 07 i had bought it new definately rode harder back then pre major back surgery . Compensater was toast under 10,000 miles . Ive had more than one friend comp was gone with low miles . Its just a horrible design theres a reason they replaced it with the SE part .
