1000 mile service cost YIKES.
Figured this being a new Street Bob with a warranty I should get the first service done by the dealership.
So today I took my Street Bob in for the 1000 mile service. 3 hours later and a bill for $371.57 wow wee labor was $ 296.34 They said I got a free bike wash. Hmmm I don't think so. Next time they see my bike will either be a warranty repair or trade in. They topped it off with a chrome oil filter to boot. WTF. |
this is always a discussion...
dealership maintenance vs. personal maintenance just ensure any work is completed by certified harley mechanic, or if you are wrenching, use a service manual...and youtube... |
Da faq?
https://pics.onsizzle.com/you-just-g...ne-4622369.png A certified HD mechanic? Shit, streetjoebob, a monkey with a wrench can do the 1k; god how I despise HD dealerships and all their lies... |
Thats why we call them the stealers.
|
Buhahahahah.....
Sorry to laugh at your pain. But what is a service plan for? Especially if you bought one? I laughed in the face of my local service manager, when he told me the cost to repair a flat tire and two wires. |
Did you think it would be free?
Did you ask how much money it would cost, before you had the work done? Always ask "How much is this going to cost", be it an oil change, a tree stump removal, a root canal... |

not all harley mechanics work for dealerships dude. some own local shops, which are a lot cheaper, and you receive more legitimate service...thats what i was suggesting
They don't actually teach reading comprehension any longer, do they? More of just social justice, tolerance, and diversity, eh? Learn how to ****ing read, dipshit; your life will be much better that way... |
Lesson: diy... 290 covers all the tools and lift you would have needed.
|
If you bought it from same dealership they should give you $100 credit. That's what they have promised me.

the local HD dealer by me charges 425 for the 1k. I've never paid to have work done on my bike but some co workers have. They got ****ed like a porn star. I I paid about 60 bucks for the filter and synthetic fluids and it only takes me about a half hour of garage time. And any dealer who says doing your own service voids your wArranty-****in bullshit. Keep your receipts as proof and tell em to go **** themselves. |
amounts to "change oil... look at bike with torque wrench and a can of lube.."

As much as a new Harley costs it should be. Hell, my 2016 Chevy gets free service for 3 years. I've had it a year and a half and haven't done anything but check the oil once in a while. It doesn't use any BTW. When the change oil message hits the info display I drive it to the dealer, without an appointment, and about half an hour later I drive out of there happy as a pig in shit. My Harley OTOH, gets serviced by me in my garage.

They poke you over a barrel at the 1k, because many will claim 'warranty' issues if you don't... but in reality, they know it's the last time you're ever gonna bring the bike in for what amounts to an oil change and inspection.. so you're gonna get reamed.
I took mine in for the 1k... at about 350 bucks... and they put that crap syn3 in my horse... then programmed it with that f'd stage1 download. I got it back home the same day and dumped that crap out and put real synthetic in her, saved some bucks and bought a real tuner. I gave the dealer one more chance when I asked them how much to install a SE compensator... the service writer, honest to god says "what's that?"... I walked away. That particular dealer is no longer in business and the folks that took his place are great... but they still are not working on my bike... no one does but me. |

now im waitin for cvaria to chime in since he likes sportys too.
cvaria is unique, he can run in both the Sportster and the Dyna forums with complete ease; he's had his issues with the kids in the Sportster forum as well, but he can navigate those waters. And his Sporty is smokin' hot! I'd love to see and hear that bike in person. That is a Sportster :D |

My dealer was trying to tell me the first service was gonna run $600. I bought their fluids and did it myself, but well before I came to 1000 miles I found critical fasteners backing out (like the torx-heads holding my controls on the bars), no locktight in sight on anything. So at about 400 miles I was pulling quite a fasteners, applying locktight, and re-torquing. A factory manual is pretty nice to have here.

ive got almost 10k on my lrs and it blows me away how often I have to tighten the same fasteners. I change all 3 fluids every 2k though cause it's quick and easy and only costs about 60 bucks so to me it's worth it. Plus I beat it like a transsexual stripper

I won't get into all the dirty details but I will say Appleton HD service manager sucks.
If I'm not guzzling tons of the HD koolaid & willing to walk to the service counter and lay my wallet on the counter he thinks I'm pure evil ! I should add the only reason I was talking to the unhelpful fella is due to the dreaded V-ineer code & hard starting. Didn't realize changing my own fluids and no 1000mi. C.U. done by them would make my bike act up. |

Haha, sound alot like me. Could be worse.... Could have a 2 bros pipe, where you need to tighten the end cap screws every ride..... Dont get why anyone would take these to a dealer for maintenance. Always been a superbike rider and worked on all of em myself. I kinda understand those getting dealer maintenance service by those riders. Scared of all the plastics and high tech stuff.... But a Harley!? Shit.... Everything is right there.... You can buy the tools from Vatozone and fluids from HD for a fraction of the cost and be done in 30 minutes tops.... And drop the oil back off at Vatozone and be completely done in a hr. |

Rocksett is capable of withstanding incredibly high temps. I use it to attach suppressor mounts on firearms, which is an item that can see temps in well excess of 1000F. Blows Loctite away when it comes to high heat applications |

I heard about the problem of the TBR end cap screws loosening. So when I installed mine, I applied Rocksett to them and have not had any issues.
