Widest tire I can put on my FXD

RE: Widest tire I can put on my FXD
I have an 01 FXD. Stock was a Dunlop 130. I went with the Metz 150. I am sure I could have went with the Metz 160. The real issue is not the numbers on the tire. I don't have pictures but I'm quite sure the stock 150 Dunlop (on 02-05 FXDs) is actually wider than the Metz 150 (more like Metz's 160). So don't let the sizes get you crazy - you have to see them on a bike. Here's my Metz on a stock 3.00 rim (plenty fo room!).

RE: Widest tire I can put on my FXD
I have a 2001 FXD that I am fitting with a 2001 Deuce rim with a Metzeler 170/17. I have used the original axel, pulley, belt, spacers etc. It is still in mockup stage and the only real issue I have had is the centering of the wheel in the fender. The gap on the right side is much tighter than on the left and it looks like it is actually the fender and struts that are out of alignment.
Like I said it is still in mockup and but I have plenty of tyre/belt clearence, belt runs in original track on the front pulley and the tyre fits into the fender neatly (except for the offset). I had to take out the brake pads to get the caliper over the disc rotor and the 2001 deuce wheel beaqring are the same part number as the dyna.
If anyone is interested I will post as I proceed.
Cheers, Mark.

RE: Widest tire I can put on my FXD
Heres a couple of pics of the finished product. I centered the rear wheel by machining 5mm of the pulley, 5mm off the left spacer and adding a 5mm spacer between the caliper bracket and swingarm on the right side.
Doing this also aligned the front and rear wheels perfectly.
All clearences are good and no contact between belt and tyre.
The other thing I did was reverse the fender bracket bolts and tidy up the indicator wiring under the fender.
No real parts listas I used all the original componants, except for the deuce rim.
Cheers, Mark.

This may be late
AVON COBRA
150/80-16. I cannot speak about any other brand of the same size.
The tire clears the fender but JUST. Maybe 3/16th each side and looks good doing it.
Take out the brake pads, compress the pistons. Install the belt pully after the tire is in place. You'll have an easier time of it

on a 99 with a 1-1/2 belt the MAX Tire is 140. Search my posts and you can find the part number for a discontinued Harley kit that will get you a 1-1/8 belt and pulley, so you can run a 150. If you can find a wider wheel you could probably run a 160 in the stock fender. The other choice is converting to a chain (don’t know more) but the limit is still the fender at that point.
