Wipe some spit on the inside of that rubber before you try stuffing the carb in. I use a slight twisting motion back and forth as I'm pushing the carb on.

It's easy for that seal to "roll up" a little bit, reducing the inside diameter. The first time I reinstalled my carb it looked fine, but wasn't fully seated. As I pushed the carb into place, the seal moved out of place. Make sure the seal is fully tight against the manifold.

A little bit of dish soap to lube the seal works . I've never had much trouble with these but when the fit seems tight the soap trick works , it doesn't take much

I use a mild solution of dish soap and water to help the intake manifold rubber gaskets seat too. Works good on rubber. No leaks
