Is gel really worth it in a seat?

I special ordered a LePera Daytona 2-Up a few years ago. I considered gel, but I've never really had a good experience with gel inserts (although I've never had a motorcycle seat with them). I've tried gel pillows, insoles, and bicycle gloves. In every case, they seem really comfortable at first, and them I feel like the gel just kind of moves away from the pressure points and adds nothing (or worse). Maybe when it's done well with quality materials this isn't true. But I find the seat really comfortable as is, easily good for five back-to-back 200-300 mile days. But I've never used it for eight hours of highway travel.
I'm sure the correct padding material is important for comfort, but the most important thing is that size, contour, and seating position are correct for the rider. My Speed Triple has a Corbin Gunfighter that is so hard, you can barely compress it with your hand. But it's the perfect shape for me, and I can spend hours on it comfortably. I doubt a gel insert can make a seat comfortable if it didn't fit the rider correctly to begin with.
