Suggested needed for a super lubricant
I'm looking for a good lubricant that will get up in where the shift lever shaft slides through the primary. I'm trying to get the shifter to be a little less sticky - it does not return as well as it used to. So sometimes i have to use my foot to finagle the shift lever before I can switch it into the next gear. I hope a good cleaning and lubricant is all that is needed.
Any tips on cleaners to use and how to clean this area. I can get to the backside of the primary and get some lube or cleaner on there, also where the shaft comes out of the tranny.
My thoughts are to spray some liquid wrench on, then use high pressure compressed air, then a good lubricant

Nevermind, I found the problem. I removed the bung king shifter linkage that was installed a while back. One of the ends of the shifter linkage does not want to spin at all. One side spins freely. I tried cleaning it up but it's pretty much frozen. The arm at the transmission shifts and returns strongly. I am going to order an OEM shifter linkage for around $17. It should get this bike back to shifting like butter - love it!

Do you know about these fancy ones from DK Custom Products? I've been looking at these for a while, and if I can get through my current projects successfully I'll be ordering some with a horn relocation kit.
About that shaft though, when I got my bike back with the mid controls for the first time, I was surprised at how much side-to-side play there is with that shaft moving through the primary. It moves like half an inch or more on mine. Is this normal? It seems both normal and odd at the same time.

There is a spacer/bushing that should get most of that side to side slop out:

Just ordered this mid control linkage from alloy art instead of using an OEM part:
