anyone heard of this happening before ?
Hi I'm new to this site and am looking for answers . I live in the U.K. riding a 2006 Dyna Wideglide (my 4th Harley having covered over 100,000 miles in last 10 years.) I am a retired Police officer and motorcycle instructor with over 30 years riding experience .3 months ago I was riding on a dual carriageway into a left hand bend at about 40 mph dry sunny conditions when the bike just wouldnt lean over no matter what I tried and I drifted into the central barrier to my right . I was flipped over the barrier and lost my right leg in the accident . The Police investigated the cause and although damage to the bike was 'light' found that the casting on the back of the gearbox through which the swinging arm pivot bolt passes had cracked open . The part is currently undergoing independant metalurgy testing however I was wondering if any of the members of this forum have ever heard of a similar problem. I know that the 2006 model has a 200 section rear tyre as standard bigger than the 160 section previously fitted and wonder if the swinging arm was widened/modifiedto accommodate it . Anyone able to help ?

I thought the 2006 dyna wide glide comes as standard with a 200 section rear tyre and the 6 speed gearbox but now I'm doubting myself I know the tyre size was increased on the 2006 modelI did look at softtails so maybe thats what I was thinking . It's a standard wheel and tyre anyhow

Trust me the 2006 dyna wide glide comes as standard with a 200 section rear tyre and the 6 speed gearbox - well it does in the U.K. anyway

Hello ezglide 1450;
My 2006 Wide Glide came with a 160 mm rear tire. HD does offer the option of a 180 mm rear tire as an accessory. This is a Dunlop tire and the bead is such that it will fit on the stock rim. I think that going to a larger tire than 180 mm would require a wider rim.There has been some discussion on the wider tire in the past. You might do a search and find more info.
Good luck on your recovery, I hope that you are doing well.

Did you say you lost your leg?! Man, sorry to hear about that!
I am glad you posted about the swingarm pivot, because ever since I got my new dyna, I have been wondering if and when they break, because it seems like that area is under a LOT of stress, for being a cast piece.

Hi again ,sorry about the confusion about the size of the rear tyre I guess I've confused myself but the bike was only 10 months old and as standard apart from screaming eagles slip-on mufflers . Yeah I lost my leg above the knee and scooped out and hand sized lump of flesh from the front of my thigh presumably on the armco post on the way over which needed a skin graft but all good now . Accident only 3 months ago so still waiting on prosthesis . Looking forward to another bike definately a Harley but wont be another wideglide ! forward controls prevented me from standing up and swinging leg out of harms way which I could have done on my Road Glide also no crash bars which may have helped . The tourers handle so much better too and I used to like my stereo on long trips .
