$300 or $1000 shocks?

Hello all I’m interested in upgrading my stock shocks to taller and stiffer shocks. I ride a 13’ super glide, I’m 6’3” 225lbs who occasionally rides with my girl on the back. Now Ive known that I would need to up my shocks eventually but now I’m wondering whether I buy some $300 drag specialties or spend the extra money and get some legends or ohllins? Any input would be appreciated I plan on going with 13” heavy duty shocks, eventually I’ll have to replace my forks as well but one thing at a time.

Spend the money on the best you can buy, otherwise you will just be wasting money on the shit shocks.

Agreed with above. Consider the fox QSR-3 as well.

It’s not necessary that you want stiffer shocks, just shocks that can keep up with your riding style and are as good on canyons as urban riding. Also take a look at rwd(Russ wermont design). Get some shocks with adjustment for easy adjustment from solo to 2-up

I do love my top end shocks but you would probably be happy with a set of ohlins emulsion shocks ($600) set to you weights and style. It is a great option with out going full tilt.
I have run those shocks and the piggy back ohlins in 13.5 inch lengths. They both perform great and I would say the emulsion shock is 75% of the piggy back at half the price....so a great deal.

I have a set of Ohlins base emulsion shocks on my 07 that I paid in the $600 range that make my bike ride great. Not stiff but absorbs and rebounds like crazy to make bumps or potholes insignificant.
I would say to you buy the best your wallet will let you buy, buy something that will be built for you.
Howard at Motorcycle metal built mine and I love them. There are other choices.. just do a little homework.

Thanks for the responses guys, definitely going to look into the shocks y’all suggested. Definitely like the idea of being able to switch preloads from solo to two up. My research continues

Also look at Bitubo shocks from DK Custom Products.
They rate the ride quality as similar to the Pro Actions, but they are Italian and do not have the PA lifetime warranty.
the Bitubos are about $500, or as low as $425 on eBay.

I wouldn't go with a cheap set.. I have the Emulsion shocks of a 2017 Dyna and with me and my ol lady (280 lbs total) It bottomed out and took out the after market center brake light. The one that sits inside the rear edge of the fender and stripped all my rear wiring harness out of the fender... $150 to repair..

Question, is it necessary to set higher spring loads when riding 2 up compared to riding solo? Or would a read good shock keep the bottoming out from happening?
