The stock bolts are HD part #4351. Maybe the dealer can match you up some chrome ones. If not, buy one and take it to a good hardware store.

hey jmpancoast, thanks....

i just called my local dealer and they're telling me that part number 4351is a 5/16 x 3/4 bolt ....???... and honestly, i didn't even want to argue with those girls behind the counter... i argue with them, regularly, and i'm always right.... i just don't have the energy, today.... do you have the specs on that pinch bolt, and i'll just buy some from chrombolt.com

thanks!... paul

I just went out and pulled the bolt from the right side of my lower tree. It appears to be a 3/8" x 1 1/2" bolt. A 3/4" bolt doesn't seem like it would be long enough to catch the threads in the tree. Please verify the size I gave you with some other source before your order them.

indeed, that's what i suspected it was... no way is it 5/16- too skinny!... and 3/4 is too damn short!

...thanks, man....and indeed, i'll confirm before i order

short story about the girls at this dealership behind the counter:

...actually went there with one of the molex plugs IN MY HAND that i'd pulled apart from the end of the wiring harness for my right hand switches... i'd accidentally damaged it pulling out the terminals to swap out my handlebars....anyway, i had it IN MY HAND and the girl tells me that it didn't come off my '07 street bob and that it must have come off a different bike... i look at her with a look on my face as if to ask "are you okay?" .... cause i know i'm riding an '07 dyna...it is a street bob...and it does have a 96inch motor in it....long story short, we went back and forth for nearly 20 minutes before she decides to talk to the mechanic out back who'd apparently convinced her that i really had no reason to lie, and was probably pretty sure about what i was riding.... so as she's laboring over her computer and catalog, he shows up with 2 brand new ones in packages!

has happened about a half-dozen times..... unreal

JS,
According to the Harley parts catalog the pinch bolt # 4351 is a Torx Screw, 5/16-18 X 3/4 (gr. 8) (self tapping w/lockpatch)
Hope this helps you.

Bart

BlackBart... something isn't right, honestly.... because i just went to the hardware store and picked up a 5/16 X 18 cap screw
...and a 3/8 X 16 cap screw....just to check size, pitch, and length before ordering from chromebolt.com, and the 5/16th is NOT the bolt for the triple clamps....but YES, the original I remember WAS a torx screw and WAS self tapping.... but it definitely is 3/8, and must at LEAST be 1 1/4 inch long...
...a 3/4 inch bolt won't even make it through all the way and the 5/16 is just too skinny!

something is up ...i mean, jmpancoast even went out and pulled one for me to verify... and it's not the size the parts catalog is saying it is

Self taping???.....Why.......the threads are there in the new wide glide trees...

they're self tapping because the triple trees are aluminum.... and when you buy them brand new, typically the threads aren't there ...but i suppose that after you create the thread, it should be fine

so that's what i'm doing....i bought the stock pinch bolts to create the 16 pitch thread, and then i'll just back them out and replace them with standard chrome button heads

My trees came threaded
By the way js1268......What wheel are you gonna run once you get your trees changed??
That's where I'm having a problem....
I wanna run my 19 stock tire....
So far no spacer is around for that yet
I was even thinking of spacing just the caliper....
I'm looking into a bunch of different things
