I have an 07 fxdl and was wondering if I took the tank to a good paint shop if they could remove the emblem from the tank without haveing to repaint. I am guessing that it is some sort of sticker that was applied between the paint and the clear coat.

I was hoping that the clear coat could be sanded down in that area and remove the emblem then just apply new clear coat.

Just wondering if its possible and perhaps what it might cost. If it would require a repaint, I'll just wait until I'm ready for a custom paint job.

I removed part of mine with dental floss doubled wraped, blow dryer ( not really needed )and some "goo be gone". Worked great

 

The emblem is under the clear coat!

Looks like the Low Riders have a decal, not a emblem with adhesive. My Super Glide is the same way and I hate it. The tank was painted, the decal applied, then clearcoated over.

 

it's against federal regulations to remove that emblem.

if you look at the fine print on that decal you will see it clearly states

"Do Not Remove This Tag Under Penalty Of Law"

He is speaking of the decorative decal on the fuel tank, not the tag on his mattress.
