Default First Clunk of the Day

I know it's normal, and there have been lots of posts on the topic. It only happens with 1st gear and the first time I go into gear for the day, CLUNKKKKKKKKK......

Just curious??? Leave a reply....on a scale of 1 to 5 where 1 is hardly no clunk and 5 is a big clunk.

When I hit that 1st gear for the 1st time of the day....I would say I get a "4"

After that...no real big clunks....

What's every one else getting?????

It depends. If I start it up and put it in gear right away,I'll get a 4, if afterI start it and hold in the clutch for a short time, it'll be a 1. When I'm at red light and in neutral, just before it's my turn to move, I'll pull in and hold the clutch for a short time, when I put it in gear, no clunk. Not sure why.

On a scale of one to five, I get a clunk that will score exactly 3.8685291

Exactly the same as you? The first one is the clunkiest because your bike is cold and the rpms are higher. Completely normal....Start to worry when you don't have the clunk.

Let the bike warm up for a minute or two more. Work the clutch because the oil in the primary is cold and causes the clutch plates to drag a little. I use redline MTL oil in my primary because it reduces the clutch drag that causes thetrans clunk. It has a low pour point like a 5w30 motor oil so it drags less. I also use redline shockproof heavy oil in the trans to reduce all the shift clunking as well. Does a great job.

Has to do with cold oil. I usually start my bike in first gear with the clutch held in. Since the start of cold weather if I do that the bike jerks forward so I have been shifting to neutral before I start it. By the time I back it out of the garage to the street it has warmed up enought I can shift to first but still get a mild clunk. That's just HD.

Ride Safe.

That's awfully close to mine which is: 3.14159265358979323846…, or PI, you might want to have your dealer check out why you're not getting the mathematical constant.

there is nothing wrong with your bike! HD is always been that way, and if it did not clunk than somthings wrong with the bike. and for all you who ride. the elders no this! NEVER EVER TAKE YOUR BIKE OUT OF GEAR, AND PUT IN NEUTRAL AT ANY STOP LIGHT SIGN OR ANY THING FOR THAT MATTER.YOU NEED TO BE READY TO TAKE OFF INA SECOND, WHEN THE IDIOT BEHIND YOU DONT STOP AT THE LIGHT, AND HE'S BEHIND YOU, AND YOUR LOOKING AT HIM COMING THROUGH YOUR MIRROR AND YOU GIVE IT THE GAS AND YOU DONT GO NO WHERE, AND HE NAILS YOU? WHY BECUZ YOU HAVE IT IN NEUTRAL!!
