82/96 without engine mods? no way.
My owners manual that came with my 02 Heratige Classic 88 ci. says 80 ft. lbs. Torque. Doesn't state the horsepower, just the torque.

They make about 70 HP stage 1. Sounds like your bike has a cam in it too. Early 88s with an Andrews 37, Cycle Shacks, DTT and jetting would get 78 hp and 90 fp SAE.

The reason I ask is... I got smoked by an 88" Road King running a 2-1 Rinehart with a Power Commander. This guy has probably 80 lbs on me plus the weight of the bike! I was pulling him in first through third, but when I hit fourth and fifth, he just walked away.
I've heardwith Short Shots, horsepower willdrop off on the top end. Maybe there's some truth to that?
Definitely got a very Optimistic if not a Dreaming Dyno if get that kind of Power from Stage 1 Alone Especially with Short Shots .. Am getting 81 HP and 92 Torque with mine and it's got Andrews TW21 Cams, K&N High Flow AC V&H 2:1 Pro Pipe Exhaust .. With the Carb Rejetted at a Good A/F Ratio ..

I hated my TC88 Softail, I poured alot of $ into cams, carb, air cleaner, thunderheader...it still sucked.

I sold it.

my bone stock TC96 wide glide runs much better, pulls harder than the 88 ever did.

They were all 3.15 top gear except for the Magneti Marelli which were 3.35. They the 5 speeds did seem to eat less power.

As far as I know, my 88 ci is stock from the factory. I just quoted what my owners manual says. 80 ft.lbs. of torque. And my bike weighs 695 lbs. dry weight.
