FXDP Footboards are now on my FXDC [pics]
Installing these was pretty straightforward. Everything fits perfectly.
The stock shifter simply won't work unless your foot is only 8" long. I'm glad I'd already ordered the extended shifter. It's perfect, but I need to get a thinner peg. The stock peg is so thick that the edge of my boot just barely fits under it, so shifting isn't all that comfortable or natural right now. Anyone have any suggestions for a thin shifter peg? Great looking bike, Gary! I like the floorboards.

Where I've got it now is perfect for leverage, and also for being able to downshift and still keep my heel on the footboard. The solution is going to have to be a thinner peg. A truly ideal shifter for this set up would be an extended one that has the "L" contour at the spline like the OEM shifter: http://www.oysterquartz.net/footboards/007.jpg http://www.oysterquartz.net/footboards/006.jpg |
can you possibly get a longer shift leaver, looks like that would place it as if on a flh bike
|
Gary - awesome set up....can't wait to here your feedback after getting the shifter figured out and do a bit of riding! I bought Gamma's set up - had it shipped to my parents, but missed UPS at Xmas...did not want to throw another 70 bucks to shipping so will get it when I am down in Feb for a visit and ski trip. .... 2 feet of snow and cannot use it anyways..but cannot wait to see what it looks like! Looks like it was a fairly easy install....
I will have to look at my buddy's EGC to see the shifter floorboard ratio....cheers - way to go! |

I like the setup you have....it looks like it would be comfortable. As far as the floorboard on the shifter side, is there any way it could pivot down enough for your boot to fit under the peg easier?

If Michael (Pockets2000) will just get off the dime and produce the shifter bracket for you, your problem would be solved .... [j/k].
Not busting on you, but I think you'd find it more comfortable (shifting and riding) for your left foot if you had the heel-and-toe shifter properly installed .... If you have (or have had) an opportunity to ride a bike that has the heel-and-toe shifter, once you get used to it, they're great. My only issue with them is that, since I wear a size 12 shoe, sometimes the boots I wear don't fit between the pegs and I have to position my foot slightly skew on the board. Not a real big deal .... The 'boards look great; good job on the mod! R/ Priest |
Problem of needing a narrower shifter peg is now solved. This works perfectly and looks "stock." :D

Looks good!! Good job! I have boards on mine, different system, but same basic idea. I can explain how much better it is having boards for ridding!!

I want your boards
Hi, can you tell me where you bought the foot board kit please, cheers

Shifter Mod for Dyna Floor Boards
Here's how I fixed mine... 1" channel iron:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...Mods/shif1.jpg Bolted to the stock shifter: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/DSCN4357.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/DSCN4358.jpg With the 'more forward' location of the peg, I can rest my heel on the front of the board which gives a 'forward peg' location for my foot. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...Mods/shif3.jpg When I position my foot full on the board it feels like a 'mid peg' location. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...Mods/shif2.jpg |
Its pretty cool to see how many differant ideas there are for floor boards

FXDP Footboards
Great looking install. I am working on the same now and have run into a slight problem. The Rear Brake Push Rod Linkage (#41954-01) is listed as obsolete, and I am not able to find any supplier with old stock. Any ideas, short of having a machine shop custom make the part. Could the same linkage from a forward control kit be modified to size? Thanks in advance, an once again outstanding mod.

It's a straight rod, 5/8" in diameter; I do not know the lenght of the threaded rear part...my guess it's about 1". Better make it 1 1/2" and cut of some slices when it appears to be to long. Not shure if a forward control push rod can be modified; depends on the form (straight or Z-shaped) and lenght and the shape of the front part where it connects to the brake pedal. My advise: have it machined out of a SS rod. Please keep us informed which way you're going and don't forget to show some images when done!! FXD2003Rider -- Thanks for the input. It looks like I'm headed to the machine shop. Not sure what the problems are, but your photos didn't come through. Could you resend they would be a tremendous help.
Is that you below the sign in Harmelen? It's been alot of years since I've been in that part of the world, but I always enjoyed myself and the hospitality was world class. |

forward controls
Couldn't you just change from mid controls to forward controls. Looks like your brake pedal's already up there, then they'd both be even? Unless I'm missing something.
