Default Bought me some SG rims - Tire reccomendations? (want 170 and 110)

Hey guys,

I have FINALLY got me a hold of a pair of Super Glide rims. Now, I have to decide what tires to put on them. Any help here? I was looking at the Metzeler ME 880 Marathon Touring 170/60R/17 rear tire for $162 and Metzeler ME 880 Marathon Touring 110/90H/19 front tire. Will these fit right? Any other tire suggestions in that price range, or cheaper that I should consider?

What about radial tires? Can I run those? I'm not quite sure what to be looking at.. I've always bought stock dunlops, but want to give something else a try. The SE 180 has gone up in price, AGAIN, and its at $260 right now unfortunately.. so, something else will be going on instead of stockers..

But I do want the widest possible tires that I can put on these rims, as I think they look better. Anyway, thanks for the help fella's.

Cheers,
Adrian

I really like the me880 over the stock dunlops. Never had the SE tires though.

Ok, $276 shipped for Metzelers, $265 for Avons shipped... hmm

Any other tire brands I should be looking at? Continental, bridgestone, any radial types? Can I even run radials??

In my opinion i tried the Metzelers 170/60 17 ME880 and it seemed to be or look
thinner than the stock k591 Dunlop. i thought it would be wider but guess not.
I havent tried the stock size on metzeler but that will be my next tire when the
time comes to replace. I prefer metzelers.

I just put on a Metz. ME880 170/60/17 78V I also was surprized to see it's not much if any wider than the stock 160. Metezler could'n reconmend this tire cause they haven't tested it, But they did say it will fit a rim between 4.25" and 5.5". I've only have a couple of hund. miles so far, but all seems good. Got it from www.phatperformanceparts.com for $182 shipped. Congrats on finding your rims.....R U getting them coated?

Hmm, maybe I'll try the Avons then... And I think I might just Line-X the rims. It'll definitely be tough as nails, and have that wrinkle black finish.. so I think I may go that route.

Thanks for the replies fella's.

In my opinion, if you are going for ride and tire wear, go with the Metz's. If you want them to be and look as wide as possible on those rims, you aren't going to beat the SE180 on the back because it is made for that width rim specifically yet is a true 180. Not sure why the price is so high. I know my indy ordered mine for me and still got it cheaper than I could have through a dealer. And he installed it without the infamous kit and it works fine.

I would rock a Metzler man... they are flat out awesome tires... after i finish my full swoop fender i am going to replace my 180 with a 170 Metzer. if you put the 170 metzler next to a 180 craplop you could not tell what one was the 180 and hwat is the 170 (well ok, you can but it is so slight you can hardly notice) besides 3/4 of my tire will be covered!

Yeah, that SE 180 looks really good on there, but I refuse to pay $260 for a single tire when I can get two, better handling, better mileage tires for the same price. Thats garbage. I've had 2 SE180's, and although I love the tire, I'm going to give something else a try. First time I bought the SE180, it was $215 (then minus 20% discount) and the next time I bought it, it was $230 (minus 20% discount) then I looked at the price yesterday and it was up to $260. Thats just crazy.

But I've read a couple things in regards to the Metzelers saying that if they are shipped from Brazil, they have some issues with chunks of rubber coming off and if they are from Germany, they are good or whatever. Can anyone comfirm that? I'd really hate to spend money on these tires and have them go bad.

Swoop fender, eh? That'll look awesome with your ride.

But what about those Avons? I've read a lot of good about them. Any input from anyone?

Oh, and buy the way Joe.... your girl is FINE! Nicely done my friend. Better hury up and seal the deal on her! LOL
