Default Heavy breather air filters - different colors?

I saw a pic of one that was hot rod red and another that was blue.

Bingo!

There was a thread lately about a guy that washed his K&N and let it fade out, then treated it with blue filter oil. looked good!

Oil that was used:

Speaking of that.... My filter is losing it's color. Is it time to re-oil the filter? I've had it for about six months.

I figured that was the case. I also figured I would go into the garage and not find the instructions......I was right. How about a quick How-to?

Use a cleaning solution made for that type of filter. Some spray on, some soak it. Whichever you choose, let it soak it for about 10-15 minutes. (Some people have used simple green successfully)

Remove it and rinse with low pressure cool water from the inside out.

Let it air dry, don't use pressurized air.

Reapply the oil, and make it even and the same color all over. View from the inside out if you can, and check the coverage. Try not to over oil. Won't hurt too much if you do, just may have to clean your MAP sensor later, 'cause of the oil residue.

That's pretty much it

Spray with filter cleaner if it's like a K&N, let soak for a few min. Then, rinse out with warm water from the inside out. Never from the outside. Let dry completely. Re-oil using K&N filter oil. Not too much though.

I just looked at my K&N recharger kit in the garage. Instructions are on the can of cleaner and the bottle of oil. Hope this helps.
