Unhappy Problem with powder coat on 09 FXDB

Hey guys

My first post on here, but I'm a long term lurker and I feel like I know a lot of you guys and your bikes pretty well. Unfortunately my first post is a cry for help.

My FXDB is 4 months old, and seems to have developed a rash! The powder coat on the right hand side has about a dozen blotches which are starting to bug me. I've tried everything to see if they clean up - S100, WD40, degreaser, Autoglym engine cleaner, wheel cleaner - but nothing has helped.

I'm not sure when these appeared. The bike's been washed really regularly, but the last wash showed these marks up, so they're fairly recent. Has anyone heard of anything on the metal "coming through" the powder coat, or is this not possible?

I'm prepared to go back to the dealer with this, but if anyone has any ideas what might have caused it, or how to resolve it, I'll give that a go first.

Thanks in advance, guys.

Sorry to hear about the spots. I have heard that s100 on these color of engines can leave spots, but I have only heard this. Have you tried some simple green and a light bristled scrub brush? Just an idea.

I got some polish on mine, didnt realize it until after a day of riding. Took a tooth brush and some windex to it, worked well, where regular soap/water and cloth wouldnt.

My guess is that is engine oil or air filter oil coming from the beather/air filter... You running a k&n filter, might be over oiled if so.... But try the above suggestions and let us know how it turns out!

they look like stains, rather than something wrong with the powdercoat.

We don't have Simple Green in the UK, but I'm sorry to say that the can of Shout I bought made no difference at all.

The service manager at the nearest Harley dealership suggested brake cleaner, although I'm not sure I'm 100% happy with wiping brake cleaner on the powder coat...

I'm close to giving up, and reluctantly agreeing with the recent reviewer who said that Harley's build quality is now approaching that of Suzuki

why not! brake cleaner has a alchole base and desolves super fast! I use it to clean all my air lines and even my powder gun after and accrilic powder
