OK i have a 2005 FXDX, i want the gauges on the tank, NOT on the tree.
I found a 1995 FXDL tank with dash and gauges that will be perfect on EBAY, my only question is will it fit. I believe from looking on line the tanks can fit any Dyna from '95 to '05. Can anyone confirm or discount this?

Is the tank your looking at compatible with you bike.?? Is the 95 for a carbed bike....and your 05 FI ?

If that's the case, you may run into problems.

 

I could be wrong but 90's to 2003 are the same and 2004 to now the tanks are stretched. So it may not fit and the seat may not line up. Also fuel injection to carb.

 

96 to 03 tanks are the same. 04 and 05 tanks are different, and I'm not sure that they will interchange.

If you want a tach, they make a combo to fix in the speedo.
I wanted more gas, 5 gallons

 

all of the above answers are correct.
even if you don't have FI - any tank before 04 will not fit properly with your seat - among other things.
all tanks 04 and later from ALL dyna models will fit - but you will have dash issues.

cheapest path is a St Bob tank - that way you can reuse your speedo - but you will need a new idiot lamp cluster, dash, fuel gauge, etc.

as mentioned - the WG tank is a great alternative - but involves the added expense of a new speedo (also the wg idiot cluster, dash and dash panel).

what you need to understand is that this is no way a cheap transition. Even with a great deal on a tank - there are lots of dash and other parts to buy that rarely show up on the used (ebay) market.

also - you need to be proficient with wiring.
