Scuff with a scotch brite pad, use a metal etching primer and then finally apply paint.

i used the krylon paint made for painting plastic. plastic is slick and non porus like chrome. it worked very well and doesnt chip when bugs hit it. i used hi temp paint on everything the 1st time and the bugs would chip the air clnr. and horn cover, this stuff is much stronger and holds up better, plus its higloss. cant use it on hot parts though.

Sounds like a job for powder coating...

You prep chrome just like you do any other metal you plan on painting. Scuff until gloss is flat, then prime, then paint. We have a good powder coat dude right here on the forum. I bet they wouldn't be much to do what you want.

better off going with powdercoat...
id hate to paint my own stuff just to have it chip/peel on me and then have to send it out for PC anyway. might as well get it done the right way the first time. depending what you want done it's relatively inexpensive too. |
If you sand correctly and use a good primer it Will hold up on Aluminum parts use zinc chromate primer or one designed for Aluminum tou have to get a good tooth on the chrome I prefer starting with 220 wet and go down to 400 then prime sand with 400 and water then finish paint. Like everything else its all in the preperation
