I want some of my parts black but dont want to buy new. Can I paint over chrome? How about polished alluminnum? HOW do I do it?
i did my heat shields for my exhaust with flat black vht spray paint. its the kind you bake. by far the best looking spray paint, when you bake it all the little imperfections smooth out and it all looks uniform. im not sure if they make gloss that you can bake, if they do it would probobly work the same but if not gloss spray paint is very difficult to make look right. just make sure you scuff the chrome really well and make sure its clean before you spray it. here is a pic. good luck! p.s. ya i know its not a dyna.lol
i used the krylon paint made for painting plastic. plastic is slick and non porus like chrome. it worked very well and doesnt chip when bugs hit it. i used hi temp paint on everything the 1st time and the bugs would chip the air clnr. and horn cover, this stuff is much stronger and holds up better, plus its higloss. cant use it on hot parts though.
You prep chrome just like you do any other metal you plan on painting. Scuff until gloss is flat, then prime, then paint. We have a good powder coat dude right here on the forum. I bet they wouldn't be much to do what you want.
If you sand correctly and use a good primer it Will hold up on Aluminum parts use zinc chromate primer or one designed for Aluminum tou have to get a good tooth on the chrome I prefer starting with 220 wet and go down to 400 then prime sand with 400 and water then finish paint. Like everything else its all in the preperation
