Default Here's a new one for ya... broke in half!

Rode 30 miles to work this morning, same old same old. Parked the scoot, looked down, and saw this...

Side mount plate with cat eye blue dot light from J&P broke right in 2.
Had about a year with 8,000 miles or so on it, no clue at all how it happened, no sign of impact, just broke.

I think that's why some people weld in a cross support (45* (I'm guessing) angle from plate to bracket).

I remember someone here made a bracket just like that. The swingarm takes a lot of abuse.

It looks like you had screws in the bottom two holes and not in the top two.

My guess is the weight of the light on the top caused it to flex/vibrate and eventually the metal failed. I had a rear accessory light on my '91 EG Classic do something similar.

I wonder if it would have lasted longer if you had all four bolts installed.

Are you talking about the light or the crankshaft?

Had all four bolts on it, but I guess they vibrated loose, I didn't bother putting blue on, (figured it's just a plate). Lesson learned locktite EVERYTHING! These monsters SHAKE.
Oh well, gives me an excuse to switch to LED and buy a billet, or have a custom one fabbed up. Add it to the winter project list.
