will high heat spray paint hold up on Rocker Covers?
 

My Rocker covers on my 2007 Dyna are aluminum and I really dont like them because they are to hard to keep up unlike chrome. Im thinking about taking them off and spraying them with high heat spray paint in black. Will this work? and hold up....

Also: if i take off the covers will the gasket break or is it reuseable

I called the powder coat people and they want $150 to do it,Im not spending that much on them

If you prepped the surface well and used a quality automotive engine paint I would think that it would be durable. Unsure about the gasket

There are basically two grades of high heat paint the 350-500 degree kind and the 1200-1300 degree kind, guess which one you need.Get the best high heat paint you can afford and follow the instructions on the can to the letter.Pay special attention to the curing instructions and you should be fine.

The best paint would VHT header paint. I think you can get from Jeg's.

I just read about a spray paint for wood burning stoves, it was a brand called thurmalux. Its supposed to be very good

... and replace the gaskets...

as said above as long as you prep and follow inst you will have no probs I did mine and put lots of miles on them and still look great

I would use Dupli-color engine paint or VHT (both made by same mfg) Header paint is over kill plus it would be a pain to properly cure it. If your rockers reach over 500* you have more important things to worry about than the paint on your rockers! See the curing procedures below.

On the Vehicle

• Paint must be completely dry before curing
• Run at idle for 10 minutes
• Cool for 20 minutes
• Run at idle for 20 minutes
• Cool for 20 minutes
• Run under normal operating conditions for 30 minutes

Off the Vehicle

• Paint must be completely dry before curing
• Heat to 250°F (121°C) for 30 minutes
• Cool for 30 minutes
• Heat to 400°F (204°C) for 30 minutes
• Cool for 30 minutes
• Heat to 650°F (343°C ) for 30 minutes

Curing Engine Enamel


VHT Engine Enamel only attains its unique properties after correct curing.

• Bake at 200°F (93°C) for 20 minutes.
• The inherent heat of engine operation will also accomplish curing.

I reccomend the john deere tractor muffler paint in black. Works great but do the process above
