Bike pop'ing on de-acceleration and down changes
Hi All,
Bought 2008 Street Bob about 2 month ago. The stealer[:@] fitted V&H short shots stag'ed, SERT and SE Pod Filter. Since the day one of ownership, the bike has been "popping" on de-acceleration and down changes. The stealer promised that this would "go away". However it's been over 3 month and 3500kms later and the problem is still here. (little less than before)
Now the stealer wants me to spend $400 on adyno tune.
What shall I do?
I've heard SERT2 Or recently released SERT PRO are self-tunning? If this is true, shall I just
change over my SERT?
Should I just pay for Dyno Tune.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Vlad

Yup - get it dyno'd - your "regular" SERT is just fine for the job, but you might want to shop around for other good tuners in your area familiar with SERT. Also might want to wait until the bike is broken in and have it done after the 1000 mile service. Good Luck!

RE: Bike pop'ing on de-acceleration and down changes
First check for intake/exhaust leaks.
Ihave had that problem too!
I used the SERT andgot completely rid of the popping!
I do not consider myself even slightly knowledgable with a SERT.
PROBLEM
My popping was when I let go of the throttle about 40+ mph and 2200 rpm
SOLUTION
On the AFR table I took the 20 and 30 MAP (kPa) positions at 1750 all the way to 2500 rpms
and lowered the values (increased the fuel) by 10% (I believe you can do up to 15% if needed)
For example if the value was 13.9 then I subtracted 10%=1.39 (increasing the fuel) for avalue of 12.5
I also took the decel enleanment table and (only in the temperature range that was created popping). I reduced the value from 0.50 to 0.07
Yes, I still get a little rumble when I let go of the throttle but I no longer get the backfires that sounded like a DRIVE BY SHOOTING!
Did you have a map installed from the SERT?
Take the same mapmodify these values, save it as a new filename, load it on your bike and give it a try.
BTW - I had my bike dyno'ed and still had this popping problem.
This IS information I gatheredhere on HDF and it worked for me.
What a wonderful resource this HDF is!
My popping is completely GONE!
Give it a try and post your results.

RE: Bike pop'ing on de-acceleration and down changes
Thanks heaps Guys for such a prompt responses.
When I bought the bike, stealer installed SERT and loaded the map. I wasn't even considering trying to modify the maps myself, but murphdog and Merlinii instilled some confidence.
Going to try this out tonight and hope for the best.
Will report back with the results.
Cheers

RE: Bike pop'ing on de-acceleration and down changes
I am actually quite determined to get this problem sorted myself.
Just discovered that the stealer did not include the data connector cable with this kit. (ie. data connector on the bike to serial adapter).
Does this cable normally comes in the kit or shall I purchase it separately?
