Thought about the Echo but no manufacturer has adopted it and I can do the D-ring in seconds, subconsciously. No complaints here.

Now that I think about it, I've always used Shoei helmets and the strap material reminds me of a thick seatbelt. If some crap helmets use something thin or inferior, I could see that being a problem.

I've noticed that some of my helmets have a lot easier to fasten D-rings than others. The heavier round ones work better than the thin flattened ones and I suppose the heavier straps help out, too.

I've been using the Echo fastener on one of my half helmets and it does take some getting used to fastening and unfastening it. Since it's a half helmet I sometimes just loosen the D-rings and pull the helmet off without undoing it completely. For the most part though, I use it as intended but loosen the D-ring to make it easier to snap the Echo together, then tighten it with the D-rings.

I got a Nolan helmet a few years back. It has a quick connect/release mechanism that is perfect.

Works well to, last year I hit the asphalt after flying 140 feet thru the air and it held.

If I ever went to a helmet besides Nolan I would mod the helmet with the Nolan connector.

They can be inconvenient at times but d-rings have been proven to be reliable and safe. Best to err on the side of caution.

toastman, that's what I was saying, me and my gf both have the same problem with ligning it up sometimes. it's a pain when it happens. we have both had occasions when we thought it was fastened and while riding realizing that it didnt click like we thought and had came back out. that has only happened a few times but it only takes once at the wrong time. I dont see how some of you have never misaligned it and got it jammed up..... guess we're just not as good at hitting the hole on the first try. lol my friend has one and has the same problem sometimes as well.

My helmet has the annoying thin ones. Easy to put on, pain to get off. The guys I ride with all wear novelty helmets and are suited up and starting their bikes while im still tightening straps and getting gloves on. I ordered the Echo's on eBay: $7 and free shipping. I'll try em out and see how they work.

The Echo works okay and can be handy when things click right. I just wish they could make it a little easier and faster to engage...More like the flared magazine wells on some of my customized 1911's and other handguns. A little better chance of hitting it right on the first try.
