Super Glide Exhaust Heat
 

The pipes on my wife's SuperGlide (2007) get very hot and we would like to find some way to shield her leg and boot from the heat. Are there any heat shields out there that we could use?:icon_idea1:

She has done that. Looking fro another option so that she does nothave to always wear chaps, especially in the summer.

Just sue HD, seems to be the "way" to get it done. lmao!

i think ther are alot of variables with your the problem your wife is having. is it a performance exhaust? do you have the proper tune if you have exhaust upgrades? bikes runs real lean (hot) off the line. if an exhaust is installed without the proper tune the bike will run leaner which in turn means hotter. i have also seen heat shields that mount under your sear and shields some of the heat away. they are called crotch coolers. see post.

You don't say what pipes you have or what mods you have done. When my bike rolled off the showroom it was in the middle of the summer and ran really hot. I cooled it down with some XEID's initially (nightrider.com sells them and has info on engine heat) and finally ended up with a tuner.

If you haven't changed out your stock exhaust you can get ceramic coated ones that will reduce the heat. Don't you currently have heat shields on the pipes?

Take the heat shields off and wrap the pipes with exhaust wrap and put the shields back on.. i have no way of an actual temp measurement but I've done it to all of my bikes and it stays about 20 degrees cooler,just guessing...It help though....

Test riding different models before buying I found the Wide Glide and Fat Bob had what I thought were excessive heat off the pipes but I had no issues with the stock Super Glide pipes other than being a pain to clean and dragging on stuff. I installed a Samson Powerflow II and they are zero issues with heat, in fact I can put my boot right up against the pipe and it never melts, leaves a mark or gets even the slightest bit warm. Sounds like you need another set of pipes from whatever you have on there.

Pipes are stock with stock heat shields. No mods to the engine. Will look into heat wrap and possible richer fuel mixture.
