Switchback FLD Front Disc Reason
I've heard some criticism about Harley only putting one disc on the front wheel of the FLD.
I had another bike (by manufacturer who will remain nameless) that had an aluminum black cast wheel also, and they purposely put only one brake disc on the left side for esthetic reasons. It shows off the rims and looks better. Possibly Harley had this same reason in mind. Function gave way to style in this instance. I'm glad they did. Bill Phoenix, AZ PS - I do use a little more rear brake to balance the stopping, but I also did that with the other bike. http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/.../SBBLKBags.jpg |
One disc or not, my front brake sucks. Brake lever goes almost to the grip sometimes. Does your do that?

No, about 1/2 way, maybe there is a problem with yours somewhere.
It is too weak of a stop if I use only the front brake, so I probably do a 50/50 squeeze. I've ridden other bikes where I could do 75% front and finish of the stop with front and rear, but the FLD (like other looks over function bikes) needs a more balanced brake technique to stop quickly and confident (even with our ABS). The stock brakes on a Dyna are adequate. Nothing more.
Form over function is rarely the correct choice. |
I think the wheels on the FLD are worth showing but the dual disc system on my Fat Bob works very well. Don't think I would want just one disc doing 80% of my braking. That is one of the reasons I went with the FXDF over the FLD.

2 time fatbob owner. the brakes on the thing is lovely. i just love it, i need very little effort to make it come to a halt. But i noticed on my 2012 with the ABS the comes further down but i garantee you its a good feeling you know its not gonna lock up

Have your dealer replace the master cyl. Mine was replaced before delivery & solved the problem.
they will usually bleed it once first then replace per MOCO guidelines |
