Does Harley de tune?
 
Does Harley de tune their bikes for the first 1000 miles?

Just had my 1000 mile service and it feels like there's more power/ torque.
It's completely stock.

The fresh oil probably gives the perception of better performance.

I would think thats a placebo, dont think the 1000 mile could make a difference. Only thing I can think of that might would be the throttle cable not being adjusted correctly from the get go and now it is thus giving you the ability to actually get the full WOT.

Yep. A lot of bikes have this occurrence. Throttle cables and clutch cable break-in occurs early and often through the first couple thousand miles.

We break-in our engines by babying them for a few hundred miles, then explore the rev range for a while, then have everything adjusted. The result is a noticeable difference in performance when we leave the shop.

Actually they come that way. Prevents a lot of problems on that first 1K learning curve. Its built into the ECM. There is 2 more fuzzy logic codes. One set at 50K comes in and throws a few crazy error maintenance codes. Then at 100K the ECM just self destructs and goes up in a puff of smoke. Helps the dealer keep his crew working and churn the inventory.

After 100K, people take the basket of parts and make a real bike. They convert the engine to run off this crazy system that has a set of breaker points and a carburetor. Then it's like they have died and gone to heaven..they last forever.....:icon_bricks: :icon_beamme:
