I ride with that kind of setup and can say I find it far more comfortable, especially for fast, aggressive riding. Mine are 12" and I can honestly say I feel I have far more control with that setup than any others I've ridden on a cruiser. Personal preference, I guess. I can say that here in CA you see it a lot more.
For some one who actually rides , and rides their bike hard. I think it comes down to function over form. At the end of the day though I could give two ***** what someone else thinks about my bike as long as it works for me.

I think the reason that t bars have gotten higher is because frame geometry has changed. on my rigid i have 8" t bars and that put my hands right where i wanted them, and on the dyna it took 10" to get them to the same place.
