Default Stubborn Cylinder - Tips for Removing?

As I've indicated on another thread I've got a blown motor. I'm in the process of pulling it out and decided to remove the front cylinder to get a look at what had happened in there. After pulling the head, I could see it's pretty ugly:

I tried to pull the cylinder the rest of the way off but I can't get it to budge. Any suggestions?

Put the engine on a bench and work the cylinder off with a mallet. The object is to save the case, cylinders are easily replaceable

See if you can pull the studs out first or split the cases and see if it helps any.

Thanks. I went ahead and went to work with the mallet with the engine in place. I’m pretty sure I will not be re-using this cylinder.

I’m not sure how much damage the case has sustained.

That's some serious crap there. If the cases are any good as well as the cam chest you might be able to salvage.... The crank and everything else is more than likely toast. That things Hammered.... After you get it apart and total the damage a 124 would probably be the answer... Sorry dude....

That looks ugly. What year and size is the engine? I'm thinking you might be able to bore it out for larger cylinders

I'd have those cases professionally cleaned and crack checked, going boom like that may have taken them out, minimum there's bound to be micro fractures at key stress points.

I'd bet the breather bore is torn up as well.

Is there a reliable way for a professional to be sure there are not micro fractures in the case someplace. It seems like I would have to be very certain before spending the money to build an engine around that case.
