Default Erratic Oil Guage

Fall is here and this is my favorite riding season. Took my 2003 Ultra (45k miles) out for a spin and on way home noticed that the oil gauge was over 60PSI, then would jerk back down to the 40's, and back up to the 60s again...especially if I gave it any throttle input. Idled at 32psi.

Any ideas?

Not 100% sure but I would suspect it is electrical on that year.

I would test it with a mechanical gauge to confirm the issue.

Yep. Gonna have to go pick one up. The bike runs fine so I assume its the gauge...just wasn't sure if this was a common issue.

And I took a look. It is definitely electrical.

Thats what I would do. Some of our most expensive equipment has elec gauges. Ill get alarms and flashing lights only to find out 90% of the time its a bad sender. I put a mechanical gauge on my ride for piece of mind.

Ok. I put a manual gauge to it and here are the results. Any thoughts?

Could be the pressure plunger in the cam plate is sticking.
We've seen it here.

Well yup. You got 2 highly experienced opinions. Being an 03 with 45k on it, have the cam tensioners ever been looked at? Might be a good time to up grade the camchest.
