Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Good info - checking into the Timken conversion - first I've heard of this. I have the notion to DIY this project and have already started to remove engine. I am in the SE TX area, Beaumont and have located a Timken dealer here - checking them out.

Thanks
Google "Timken Conversion", not really a DIY project. You need the install kit with hardware, minor machine work, pressing capability and a "dummy" shaft and, IMHO, not one for a newbie to take on but that's your call. The HD Lefty bearing is a DIY install, cheaper and will adequately support the crank. I am running Lefty bearings in a 98" motor making 114HP/115TQ in an '05 case; could have done the Timken but believe the two Lefty rollers are up to the task. Once you get the work done shown in the below videos, you will need the dummy shaft to torque the crank and case assembly and check the clearance; if it's not right, rinse and repeat removing and adding shims until clearance is within spec.
No i'm not going to handle anything but the engine removal, cam and oil pump change and engine replace. You put me on to something as I called and spoke with John at Darkhorse - good info from him and he helped me solidify my thinking on what I might do on this. Thanks again!
