Welcome to the forum. Throw those stock inner bearings in garbage and go with Koyo b-168. There are no outer cam bearings on your bike, just a bushing.

u will need de compression releases with those 255. would be better off to go with Andrews 48 will give low end torque without the tuning , knock problems with 255 and the hard to turn over with hi ccp number that the 255 will give the motor. the 48 is bolt in cam. wouldn't hurt to put a set of s&s standard lifters with adjustable pushrods set at .140 preload after rod starts to push lifter plunger down. se lifters are absolute crap. that set of 255 will make so much noise with Harley lifters. been there done that. I don't think the 96 inch motor came with built in de compression releases until the switched to 103 motors
watch cam bearing install depth the lip at the back of the bearing seat is very small lip. very easy to hammer it into the crank case. with pull-install plate take measurements of how far yours are installed at now before u pull them out.

Had 255s with headwork on an 07 E Glide. Woke that dead 96 up and ran quite well with Tmax and no comp releases.
And yes, there are better choices.

Thanks guy's for all the input and welcoming me to the group. I have another stupid question. I've been getting mixed emotions from everyone about changing the oil pump. I've already ordered a high performance pump. Are these really as hard to replace as everyone makes it out to be ? As far as I can tell , it's only a couple of bolts and a gasket. I'm guessing as long as the guts don't fall out, I should be fine...... right ?

A good start would be to get the service manual and review the procedure you are looking to perform, and go from there. It's a little more involved than just a couple of bolts and a gasket.

Why are you changing the oil pump?

Ride safe.

I've just ordered the clymer service manual. I figured since I was opening the cam chest for a set of 255 cams, I might as well, upgrade. From what I've studied anyway, the new cams operate better with higher oil volume. Besides, my bike has almost 50k on it, so it wouldn't hurt

I'd skip the Clymer and go for the HD service manual. For your year, they should be available used on Fleabay or similar.
