Default Primary chain housing drain plug leak

K...screwed up on my other post and can't edit title ...so here goes again

Friend's bike is a 92 FXR. The drain plug is dripping. It is not stripped and is in all the way. These bikes are not supposed to leak darn it.

Teflon thread paste..
That's what I have to use on mine to keep it from leaking and it works great.

It is common for those plugs to have been screwed in too far. Teflon tape works for me.

IIRC that plug is a tapered thread! It shouldn't be screwed all the way in, but as it has been the thread has probably been stretched or spoiled. Use a suitable sealant, as recommended above and screw back in WITH CARE. Tell your friend to get a factory service manual and read it.

Pipe plugs are, as mentioned, a taper thread. 1/8-27 National Pipe Taper to be precise. They're meant to be used with some sort of sealant and tightened snug. Teflon tape or pipe seal works. I use Hylomar on my pipe plugs and snug them just beyond finger tight. Never had one leak or come loose. The Hylomar remains soft and sticky. Seals the threads, but is easy to remove when you want to.
